Context of the project
In terms of access to water supply systems in the world rankings (the United Nations and the World Health Organization), rural regions of Moldova are by far the worst situation in Europe (located in the vicinity of Central Africa). In access to sanitation and sewage systems are on par with Morocco. Over 60% of school-age children in Moldova are at risk of diseases due to poor quality of drinking water and poor hygienic conditions. Approximately 57% of the population of Moldova lives in rural areas. Among 1689 rural communities, less than 200 is equipped with a reliable source of water supply. The problem of drinking water quality is directly related to the lack of water cleaning systems. In the dense population and the warm climate, lack of water cleaning system has led to widespread contamination of soil and groundwater, including a number of deep wells, which are scenes of drinking water supply systems. The budget of the country can afford to cover the most urgent needs of investment in the sector, which are limited to the cities. The Moldovan government determined to find funds for necessary investments, already signed a contract with the European Commission and the US financial support for projects to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Solution of the problems of access to drinking water and improving sanitary conditions is one of the priorities of the Moldovan authorities in the framework of the National Development Strategy. Particularly, there is a lack of small rural water waste cleaning systems. Small wastewater treatment systems based on plant-ground filters, quick to build and cheap to operate , meeting the EU standards and commonly implemented in Poland in Natura 2000 areas are a good solution in rural Moldova.

Description of the project
The aim of the project is to implement innovative solutions for wastewater cleaning in rural Moldova.
Implementation of the project is to:
1. Organization of the study visit in Poland in order to transfer knowledge and experience in the management of wastewater in rural areas and the design and construction of rural waste water cleaning plant and groundwater filters.
2. The design, construction and commissioning of the model of ecological waste water cleaning plant in a closed system SBR supports one of the sections of drains in the village Olanesti (Stefan-Voda district).
3. The design, construction and commissioning of the model of ecological waste water cleaning plant operating on the basis of plant-ground filter supports public buildings and residential buildings connected to a common sewage system in the village Oniscani (area Calarasi).
4.Conduct in Moldova specialized workshops for the design, construction and operation of waste water cleaning plants in rural addressed to architects, contractors, representatives of environmental organizations and local authorities.

Implementation of the project will allow to solve the problem of waterwaste treatment in the villages Oniscani and Olanesti and enable practical training of local partners (employees of local governments, environmental organizations, contractors sewage future architects, engineers) for the design, construction and operation of rural sewage treatment plant. The project is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Moldova, with the active participation of local authorities in both towns.
The project serves Priority 6 - environmental protection and priority 15 - water and sanitation

Results
The project has been implemented following project activities in which achieved their results:

Activity I. Study visit to Poland - Polish transfer of knowledge and experience in the design, construction and operation of ecological waste water cleaning plant for project partners from Moldova: designers, municipalities and experts.

Activity II. Construction of model waste water cleaning plant in a closed system in the village Olanesti SBR (Stefan-Voda district).
It has been designed and put into operation a modern waste water cleaning plant with a capacity of 20m3 per day, which supports most public institutions, processing plant vegetables and fruits and residential buildings connected to one of the village sewage systems.

Activity III. Construction of ecological waste water cleaning plant operating on the basis of plant-ground filter in the village Oniscani (area Calarasi).
Currently built model waste water cleaning plant with a capacity of 58m3 will support the new sewage system (also formed part of the "Polish Aid" by working in partnership Oniscani municipalities and cities Bielsk Podlaski) in the Oniscani village, which has 1,352 inhabitants. Completion of construction of waste water cleaning plant is planned for the end of October, and cast the investment into operation in mid-November 2014.

Activity IV. Workshops for the design, construction and operation of a ecological waste water cleaning plant.
Were conducted three workshops for designers, contractors, local authorities in the design, construction and operation of ecological waste water cleaning plant. The interest of the beneficiaries and the mass media has exceeded our expectations.
