The East Foundation is focusing on assistance mainly for partner organizations in Eastern Europe and Caucasus and working on jointly agreed sectoral priorities:

  • development,
  • networking & capacity building
  • emergency and thematic issues:
  • HIV/AIDS
  • migration
  • environmental protection

That needs more analysis, common understanding, joint planning process and cooperation and coordination on implementation. The joint concepts in priority sectors and on thematic issues were adopted and now being implemented as annual activity plans.
For the time being (in 2012) 3 regional coordinators were nominated and starts work as "decentralized FE staff" based in respective national partners offices: for HIV/AIDS in IM CSS/Belarus, for migration (including anti-trafficking and gender based violence) also in IM CSS/Belarus and for capacity building in ART/Armenia.
General idea is to share duties and responsibilities on such way that the East Foundation office staff takes direct responsibility for sectoral priorities and "create space" for emerging thematic issues, where coordinators of themes are working in respective partners offices as partly paid by East Foundation "decentralised staff", providing service for the whole region. Coordinators were also responsible for "start up" regional initiatives including fund raising (preparation of regional/national project applications to possible external donors).
